An email from Uncle Gene about Sylvia, Jeremy's grandmother:

Mom died this evening at 10:36 pm. She was at Foxdale where she was
getting very attentive and loving care --and good drugs-- to ensure
that she was comfortable and without pain. I had driven up last Wednesday
night when the staff thought she would "be going within hours" and I spent
Thursday with her. (That was the third time I'd gone up to see her for
a last time. But, as always, she held on until she was ready.) She hasn't
been verbal for a while and lately, had become non-responsive as well;
I started speaking to her by phone with a nurse holding the phone to her
ear. The nurse called this evening to say that it was probably very soon now.
So, I called to tell her that Bob and I loved her and that everyone was
sending her their love and I wished her good night. The nurse told me
later that she (nurse) said essentially the same thing to Mom after
hanging up the phone; Mom looked up at her, as if to acknowledge what
she'd said (?), and stopped breathing shortly thereafter.
Jeremy went to work today, a break from the week of vacation. I am still cleaning out the house at 274 Town View Drive. I don't know when it will be done. We had lunch at Neko, a Japanese place that has a branch in New Paltz. Jeremy brought a co-worker of his, Helen. She has an 18 month old son who was in Conneticut for the week. Then Vince, Edda and I went to the pet store and looked at all the pets. I thought about gettting a betta fish, but then thought I'd better not. Went to the Children's Museum where Edda got kissed on the lips twice by the cutest boy named Caleb.

This is a test post from flickr, a fancy photo sharing thing.
Today we are all sick except for Vince of course. The little guy is just running around like crazy and Jeremy, Edda and I are all congested. We went to Bard to pick up Katherine and Bob's passport information from Eileen. They are both in Sri Lanka where the people are dealing with the aftermath of the tsunami.

Busy August

Well, what a busy August. We saw Susan in NYC while she was here for her Morgan Stanley training. We ate dim sum and went to the Transit Museum and had dinner in creation. It was a lovely dinner with potato pancakes and a milky, soupy rice/beef/noodle dish. Vince spent the time throwing pennies into the water. It was impressive how fast we spent money on parking. Each time we parked, it was 20 bucks and we did it 4 times. Ha! Oh, we also saw the new Columbus Circle mall and ate at the Whole Foods. This past weekend we went to Maine to see Julia at Cape Porpoise. July's niece Danielle is getting married this Labor Day weekend and the family is gathering to celebrate. We went to Goose Rocks beach in Maine. On our way back and forth from Maine, we stopped at a bakery in Exeter, NH which had a dough table. We stopped at the Trolley Museum in Maine and a playground in Athens, MA. We also had dinner Friday night with Vince Rotello in Amherst, MA.

Sunday, August 1, 2004

Had therapy at the Target store. Last night went to the opera.

Monday, July 19, 2004

Jeremy is in Taiwan now. :)

Tuesday, July 13, 2004

Went out to dinner at the Enchained Duck in Kingston to celebrate our 9th anniversary and Jeremy got the offer today! Hooray!

Sunday, July 11, 2004

Went to NY on the train, met up with Rhee at Bryant Park. Ate lunch and went to Central Park.

Wednesday, July 7, 2004

Katherine's off to China.

Tuesday, July 6, 2004

Grumpy morning, Vince didn't get enough sleep. And for his nap, the gardeners woke Vince up with their equipment. Emy took Vince to see Eileen, so he'll be well entertained.

Sunday, July 4, 2004

So we have moved into Casa Martin. On Friday, we went out on a date to Portofino's. Saturday, we got our bed from storage and put a bunch of stuff in storage. Then Saturday afternoon, we went to Lauren's graduation party. Today we had the Smiths over. Tired and full and happy.

Wednesday, June 23, 2004

Ate our organic, local, grass-fed steak last night in the gazebo. It was pretty yummy. Haven't had beef in a long, long time.

Tuesday, June 22, 2004

So I got all us Martin's a gmail account : edda.martin, vince.martin, jeremy.martin, doris.martin. Does this mean I'll have to change my name to match my gmail account? Sigh.

Sunday, June 20, 2004

What a nice weekend. The weather improved from totally humid and yucky on Friday, to much better now. On Friday, we went to the park. On Saturday, Vince and Jeremy went to the Poughkeepsie Farm Project to pick strawberries and to run errands. I packed and hung out with Edda. That evening, we went to the park and had a wonderful salad and turnip dinner. The turnips were delicious, so tender and yummy. I was very happy. Then today we had a bagel brunch with the Martins who are on their way to Putney. And Jeremy cleaned up my hair and now I have a cute bob!

Tuesday, June 15, 2004

Packing, packing, packing.

Monday, June 14, 2004

Sunday, we had brunch with the Hungs. Went to their house in Los Altos Hills and went to lunch at Ming's. They had recently come back from Taiwan to move the bone's of their parents. At Ming's we had the most delicious fried fish and spicy XO sauce. Very nice afterburn. Donald was there and I negotiated at stay at their house in the shed in their backyard. Donald and Mr. Hung played chess and we all talked about real estate. Then we headed to the airport and got on our red-eye flight and came home.

Sunday, June 13, 2004

Yesterday, we saw Susan Kim who was in town on a house hunting trip for her new job at Morgan Stanley. We had lunch together in Palo Alto and then we played in a park for a while. She says she'll be working 80-100 hours a week and she'll be starting in mid July. We are relieved that she didn't buy a house, but is renting. Last night, we didn't have any plans and thus, we got a little antsy with each other. Today we got up and drove over to Litian's house in Fremont and went to a park. The park was full of Chinese people. I told Jeremy that he could learn Chinese just by moving to Fremont. Vince got to ride in a Barbie battery-powered car. Then we went over to Jenny and Vince's in Morgan Hill. Beautiful view and high up in the hills. We saw Helen and played in their playground in their backyard. Mom and Dad bought a house outside Portland.

Thursday, June 10, 2004

Well, we are finally in the Larkspur Landing Hotel, which feels remarkably like home since we've stayed here many, many times. Our flight from NY was epic. We left the house at 1 pm for a 7 pm flight. Vince was a bit of a screamer and was tiring for Jeremy. We checked into the Burlingame Hyatt because Vince was a little bit sick and we were worried about contaminating the Machols. The next day we went to Tilden park to meet up with Steve, Tienne, Max, Ben, Marianne, Julia, Sam, Ananda, Tenere and Joiquin. It was a lot of fun and later we went to Steve and Tienne's house in Berkeley and had a great pizza party. That night, it was hard for Vince to fall asleep. On Sunday, we hung out with Donald and went to the Palo Alto Zoo. The next day I purchased the double stroller and Vince slept in the car for 3 hours. On Tuesday, Vince, Edda and I hung out with Donald all day. We went to the Burlingame park and then to the Stanford Shopping Center. We ended the day by watching the Lakers/Pistons game on TV. By this this time, Jeremy had spoken to Dad's friend's brother who gave the keynote address at the conference. On Wed, we went to the park in the morning and then moved all our stuff to the Landing. Today we drove back up to Burlingame and hung out at the park again. This afternoon, we went to Donald's bike shop Chain Reaction and tried out the little Trek bikes for Vince.

Monday, May 31, 2004

Beautiful weekend continues. Yesterday, Margurite and Andy came in from Boston and we went to Innisfree. Beautiful gardens, water sculpture.

Sunday, May 30, 2004

It's a beautiful, beautiful Memorial Day weekend. Hmmm.. Yesterday we went to the PFP for our veggies and then to Adams for food. Then we went to Eva's 90th birthday party and listened to a concert. Vince fell asleep in Jeremy's arms, we actually were all asleep at some point. Had pizza for dinner.

Friday, May 28, 2004

We spent last night at the playground. This morning, Jeremy called Taiwan and we got sobering news from Ron Rozman.

Thursday, May 27, 2004

Last night we went to Eileen's house for dinner. She had pulled out all these toys from Shannon and Lauren's childhood. The record player with the 5 color disks. It was really nice to see her. Edda had gotten her 2-month shots earlier that afternoon and was fussy on the ride home from dinner and also during the night last night. Today I got her passport pictures taken.

Sunday, May 23, 2004

Yesterday had a wonderful graduation party at the Martins. Ate migas for dinner.

Saturday, May 22, 2004

Went to the Poughkeepsie Farm Project today and got spinach, lettuce, broccoli, bok choy and dandylion greens. Got mad at Vince yesterday for breaking my piano. Just lost it. I apologized to him. Ruby, the dog, is slowly being untrained. She's eating eggs off the dining room table when we aren't looking.

Thursday, May 20, 2004

Crazy! Volvo is in the shop today. Homebound. Going to stay in my PJs all day today.

Wednesday, May 19, 2004

Last night, we went to Li-Hua's house for the end-of-year Chinese drama plays. Then we had dumplings for dinner. Vince ran around like a mad man, Edda slept. Today we went to Red Hook for Edda's 2 month shots/checkup but due to a paperwork snafu, she wasn't insured. So we are going next week...

Friday, May 14, 2004

Well. well. well. A late night call from Taiwan through my dad's contacts. Talk about plans turning topsy turvy. Thank goodness it's Friday!

Wednesday, May 12, 2004

Went to see two houses in New Paltz. The first was a cottage for $1200 and was rented by the time we showed up. The second was a raised ranch on a quiet street about 3 miles from the center of town for $1500. We had dinner with Carla which was hectic because Vince was flying around as usual.

Tuesday, May 11, 2004

So last night's piano lesson left Jeremy all frazzled. Edda won't take a bottle, so she spend the whole time fussing. Arg.

Monday, May 10, 2004

Wow, what a hectic weekend... Saturday, we were at the park for most of the morning, it was a gorgeous day. Then a nap at home and then we headed to Asuka and Carrie's suprise "Congrats, you got a job" party where we met my dad. Then on Sunday, a walk in the rain in Amenia and a look at the horse farm. Then afternoon, we saw a cute craftsman house in Poughkeepsie, slightly sketchy neighborhood, and too small. Then to Bard for an early dinner with Ben and Emily and the whole gang. Ben has his social life in disorder and Emily is pining away about an apartment. Also, their new phone works! Yah!

Thursday, May 6, 2004

Dragged Vince around Bard crying. Edda was in her Bjorn. Talk abuut tough. Bought the Martins a new phone they have been needing for over a year.

Wednesday, May 5, 2004

Looking for a place to live. Saw a huge place ($1600) on a busy, busy street. I've been calling places left and right. Ugh. My phone phobia is retreating a little bit. Hmmm.... seeing places in Rhinebeck tomorrow. A friend's cancer is back, she started her chemo yesterday.

Sunday, May 2, 2004

Woke up and shimmied out of the house really quickly. We went to see a "luxury apt complex" opening in 2004 and what we saw was a bunch of firemen knocking through a wall of a house. Then we drove to Red Hook, dropped Vince off and went to see a house in Milan which was nice, but it really didn't click. Then we went home via Target. No shoes for Vince, but a bunch of new socks. Dave came over for a chat. Seth came over to fix the tractor and mowed the lawn.

Saturday, May 1, 2004

Busy day. Went to Jonathon and Christine's house in the morning. Had lunch at a little league game. Went to Bard for an anything wash fundraiser for the Ghana project. Walked the kids. Tiring. Almost saw a place in Rhinebeck.

Friday, April 30, 2004

Saw an apartment in the village of Millbrook. Tiny. Yikes! We will see where we will live. Can't wait for the weekend!

Wednesday, April 28, 2004

Chinese dinner hosted by Li-Hua. Dentist appointment with Dewhirst.

Tuesday, April 27, 2004

Yesterday, Vince peed and pooped in the toilet for the first time! And I had my first piano lesson in 20 years or so.

Sunday, April 25, 2004

Yesterday we went to Coyote Grill with Caleb, Todd and Esther. It was actually not bad food and quite lively discussion. We also bumped into a red haired Seth, our landlord who wanted us to sign another year lease.

Friday, April 23, 2004

My piano came today! Woo hoo! And my lessons start on Monday. It'll be great. Well at least it will be OK.

Thursday, April 22, 2004

Last night was Girls' Night Out at Eileen's house. It was a lot of fun getting my feet soaked and pumiced. I bought a bunch of products, we'll see how it goes. Edda gained 2 pounds in 2 weeks, an impressive gain and I signed up for piano lessons starting on Monday!

Monday, April 19, 2004

So Mom was here for a week or so and helped out tremendously with everything. She was great. We dropped her off in Albany last night and had dinner at the hotel and now it's just back to me. Which is a bit of a trial. Hmmm... Jeremy's trip went really, really well and it's going to reach almost 90 degrees today. Wow!

Tuesday, April 13, 2004

Last night, mom cooked this elaborate meal for the Martins. Including organic beef roast.

Sunday, April 11, 2004

Happy Easter! We had a nice walk where we got attached to another family with 2 kids. They latched on to Ruby and Vince and had a great time.

Saturday, April 10, 2004

We went to the Millbrook Easter Egg hunt by accident today. It was a lot of fun!
Last night we had a pizza party with the Rozmans (Susan's hair is growing back in fabulously) and the Martins and Mom and Dad made it here by 6:30 or so. Vince was thrilled to have so many people around. Edda was calm and collected.

Friday, April 9, 2004

Vince is sleeping through the night, 2 nights in a row. Thus allowing Jeremy to remain on his side of the queen bed all night. It's really nice. Edda seems to be plumping up with the wake up feedings. I'm doing well. Adam's was packed today for Easter shopping.

Thursday, April 8, 2004

Last night we did our finances for the first time in a few weeks. We are gung ho into operation "Yellow Poop" for Edda since she's 2 oz less than her birth weight. Today we applied for life insurance, now on to the will!

Wednesday, April 7, 2004

Went to Edda's two week appt. She's doing great considering she's had a cold for a week now. Looks like she is almost at her birth weight again. Whew!

Tuesday, April 6, 2004

Ohh, almost forgot. We went to an art opening and met Laura Linney. Cool, huh?
Surviving my first week with two kids. At home it's pretty easy as Edda sleeps a lot and Vince does his own thing usually. Going out is another story. I'm glad my mom is going to be here next week. I got too ambitious yesterday so today I'm pretty sore.

Monday, April 5, 2004

Jeremy went to work today. We are doing OK. Made it to the library and tried to make it to playgroup, but no one was there. I think it is still spring break. Ruby ate some trash yesterday, so she's throwing up weird stuff and pooping weird poop. Yikes! My soreness is going away! Hooray!

Sunday, April 4, 2004

Ben is here in town to do his taxes. Vince watched a movie with Kathering (Microcosmos). We went to an art opening at the CC. Vince rode his trike over to the art center and ate cheese and soda.

Saturday, April 3, 2004

Vince's naps are getting shorter and shorter and his temper is getting longer and longer. He's getting woken up by Edda. Went to see the new condos by Asuka and Carrie's house.

Tuesday, March 30, 2004

Edda Josephine Martin is here!

Monday, March 22, 2004

Hmmm... busy weekend. On Thursday, started to schedule the c-section at my appointment with Stacey. Stayed over at the Martin's on Thursdays. On Friday, eagerly awaited a call which would determine the date of the babe's birthday, but nada. On Saturday, we went to Bard for the bagel run, Jeremy, Bob, Ruby and Vince came in first. I came in last. Katherine, Bob, Jeremy and Vince went to Westchester to buy Bob's new Acura TL. The Honda, at the exact same moment died on River Road. We are wondering if it'll ever start again. That night we went to Osaka for dinner and hung out. Yesterday, we just hung out at home getting a bit grumpy with each other. Called the parents and called Donald.

Tuesday, March 16, 2004

Hmmm... Had a week of Ruby check-up, Vince check-up. Stayed at the Martin's house 2 nights this week. Jeremy went to an energy in China talk. Saturday, Jeremy entertained at the Martin's house. Urlich and Claudia came over and had milk in the car for Jeremy's cabbage dish. On Sunday, Jeremy and Ben worked on his taxes. Yesterday was a beautiful 50 degree day. Today looks as if it'll snow a foot. Still waiting around

Monday, March 8, 2004

This weekend was a busy one. On Saturday, I went to recorder class and Jeremy, Vince and Bob went car shopping. Avalons, Camry, Mercedes. Ha! It's a great thing. That night, we went to Asuka's and Carrie's for a pot luck. We brought chili and cornbread. It was Carrie's annual celebration of her mother's birthday. Kathy was there too and played with Vince quite a bit. On Sunday, we celebrated Vince's 2nd birthday and Katherine made the most delicious eggplant dish with tomatoes and onions and a garlic yogurt sauce.

Wednesday, March 3, 2004

This past week, Jeremy was in Germany for a business meeting, so I high tailed it to the Martin's up in Red Hook. We had a very nice week together. Bob was in New York City for much of the week practicing. Jeremy came back on Friday night and we left for Philadelphia on Saturday morning. We stopped off and joined Gargi and family for a late afternoon visit. Then we went to the Haverford Student Center, where we were to spend the night in guest rooms. On Sunday, we walked around campus (it was an absolutely beautiful weekend) in the morning and fed the ducks. For lunch, we went to Caleb's house where I met his mom, dad, mom-in-law and we had a nice time. In the afternoon, we went to the concert. A person fainted in the lobby and Jeremy helped out. Gargi and I tooled around campus. Sunday night, we went out to this Italian place and Gene had driven up from DC. Monday we had breakfast with Ariah (sp?) and old family friend and lunch with Lyle, who was Jeremy's professor. It was wonderful.. On the way back, we stopped off in Princeton. We talked about coffee grinders and new cars.

Monday, February 16, 2004

What a busy weekend! We went to Portofino for Valentine's Day dinner on friday. On Saturday, we spent a ton of money stocking up on staples and fresh food. On Sunday, we went over to the Martins for dinner and to sleep over. Today I went to Stacey to check my cervix, everything looked OK. Went to lunch with Bob's classmate and saw Eileen!

Wednesday, February 11, 2004

Had some brown mucous crap come out of me, so I went to see Stacey and had an internal and an ultrasound done. Cervix is still sealed shut and placenta is up high. Everything looks A-OK! Suppose to take it easy for a few days until she can check me out some more.

Monday, February 9, 2004

What a busy weekend. On Friday night, Emy babysat Vince and Katherine, Bob, Jeremy and I went to a private club with Fanelee Thorn. Saw her beautiful house, beautiful car, beautiful friends. All very nice. Had quail for dinner. Sat, I went to recorder and Jeremy worked the weekend shift. Sat night, we went to the Chinese New Year party at Beacon HS. Sunday we vegged out. Turns out that my classes would be 3-4 nights a week during the summer, I think a bit much for all of us.

Tuesday, February 3, 2004

hmmmm... slow week. Yesterday it finally was above freezing. Vince and I went to Vassar to play in the snow and celebrate the relative warmth.

Thursday, January 29, 2004

Vince is on a weird sleeping schedule. I wonder if he is growing. Some days he has a 3 hour nap. Other days, he's nap free. What gives?

Wednesday, January 28, 2004

Snow, snow, snow. I'm going to try and make it a 2nd day without going outside. I'm such the cook these days. Last night, peanut noodles from scratch!

Sunday, January 25, 2004

What a cold weekend. Watched 8 Women and started to watch the African queen. Jeremy made a wonderful curry chicken last night. Today we spent the day with the grandparents and hung out with Bob at the publicity shoot for his quartet.

Saturday, January 24, 2004

On Wed, we had pizza and tutoring with Eileen and Lauren. Vince stayed up until all hours. The next morning we went to the playgroup and it was packed! Had dinner at China Rose with the family and Isabel. It is still brutally cold. Still inside watching videos. Today we went to the chinese market and what a scene. Mom is moving to Washington tomorrow. She FedExed dad some stir fried pork. Go figure!

Tuesday, January 20, 2004

Well, on Sunday, Jeremy's family and Carrie and Asuka came over for dinner. It was a bit hectic. We had not seen Bob for about a month and the same was true for Carrie and Asuka. Jeremy made calzones, a mushrooml; a sausage; and a spinach and feta one. This is going to be a week indoors. It's still pretty cold and unforgiving outside. We missed Eric and Colleen this weekend. They were in New York visiting Eric's god daughter. Dad was in LA this weekend visiting all his brothers and sisters. Staying with Jane and Jim. Yesterday I went to the mall to stock up on next year's winter clothes, but I just couldn't do it.

Tuesday, January 13, 2004

Nothing much going on here. More cold weather. Our neighbor has tired of Jeremy's plowing letters, oh well.. So much for that. Lots of videos. Made lasagne with oven ready noodles last night. Worked well. Getting into baking these days.

Sunday, January 11, 2004

A weekend of freezing cold weather. Went to recorder class this weekend. Saw North by Northwest and then on Sunday, we went shopping and spent the day baking banana bread and oatmeal cookies.

Friday, January 9, 2004

It is freezing cold here. Right now it's 1 F. Brrrrr... We spent the past couple nights at the Martins. On Wed, we went to Isadora and Alex's place and had a wonderful dinner with them. Jeremy had to leave early because he was tutoring Lauren. Vince played and played with Miroslav and Radoslav until almost 11. On Thursday, I went and did my glucose test at the hospital, then went to the playgroup. Hung out with Eileen for a few hours and went home to a doctors appointment and dinner with Emy. Today, Jeremy had a doctor's appointment for his regular physical, first one in 15 years. And now we are home. It took 4 hours for the house to warm up from 45 degrees to 65 degrees.

Tuesday, January 6, 2004

We are back in our usual routine. Trudi is staying over with us until Bob and katherine get back from China. Jeremy came home early yesterday when he became frustrated over his computer not working.

Sunday, January 4, 2004

Wow, I can't believe that Christmas vacation is OVER. We drove to DC on Saturday evening with Ruby and Vince and made it to mom and dad's house by midnight. Vince woke up and spent some time playing with their stuff and eating noodles. The next day, we saw Emily and Dan and went to their house in Cheverly and went to the Museum of Natural History and Vince ran through the exhibits. Had dinner at a Tapas Bar inChinatown of all places. On Monday, we went swimming in the afternoon and went to the zoo with my parents. The day was beautiful and the zoo was wonderful. Then one Tuesday, we went to Christine and Seth's place for pizza and cheesecake. The kids had a great time and ran around for hours. On Wed, new years eve, we went shopping for all the people in Philly, went swimming (Vince LOVES swimming) and then had hot pot for dinner and we talked about Taiwan and China a lot. In Philly, we stayed with Tina and Caleb for two nights. We saw Gargi and Nirangin for 6 hours, saw Amy Freese for a few hours where I got all inspired about doing indoor exercising and also saw Tim and his girlfriend of one year, Aisha. Ruby also behaved herself amazingly well with all the doggies she met and also Vince had a good time. We got home last night and Ben and Emy came by for dinner, today we hung out a Bard. Ben is going back to NYC tomorrow. The rents sold 4 Duke St for their full asking price last night. Whew. Unbelievable!
